Bukit Fraser birding pt 5

On the last day went to the TELEKOM tower, was hoping for the HELICOPTER bird. But no luck. A cloud of mist blows up from the valley down below, bringing along a flock of birds.

Fulvettas and Babblers.

Lifer, not exactly photo perfect with the puking like look. Best I could do in the mist and a little photoshop.

Grey-throated Babbler
Stachyris nigriceps

Lifer, like the innocent look.

A flock of pigeons suddenly decide to perch on a tall dead tree. Their droppy wings give them a vulture like appearance.

Then came rain and mists. Tiger in the woods, seeking shelter from the rain.

Bukit Fraser birding pt 2

The sky darkened prompting us to go back to the hotel for a rest and find batteries.

Fraser Hill is an INTERESTING place to see birds. Birds are everywhere, even the hotel garden!!!

Where else can you find common house Sparrows replaced by Mesias and Mynas replaced by Sibias.

This flock of Mesias greeted us at the hotel garden before the sky poured.

Lifer.

Silver-eared Mesia
Leiothrix argentauris

Bukit Fraser birding pt 1

Fraser Hill 15Dec2010.

Went to Fraser hill birding for the first time, tried one of the trails regulars mentioned by birders.

A Drongo greeted us at the entrance of Hemnant trail and made numerous appearance along the trail.

Lesser Racket-tailed Drongo
Dicrurus remifer

Lifer Niltava next, before the flash batteries decided to make a fuss. Seen another lifer Laughing thrush, but it was too quick for the camera. Was eager to bump into the mascots of FH, heard the characteristic call of the broadbill (ascending note like a helicopter starting the engine!).

Kemensah birding

Kemensah birding on 14Dec2010.

Highlight of the trip must be the wagtail. As we stopped by the stream where a couple used to wash their car to have our lunch, a wagtail suddenly presented itself on the rocks. The bird is not so shy, rock hopping up and down the stream for a few minutes before going off. Must be accustomed to the weekend picnickers.
